"Spark: An Evening of Creativity and Imagination Gala" takes place February 29

A community library is so much more than books, and The Innisfil ideaLab & Library wants you to know everything they offer.

For the first time, the community hub is holding a Spark Fundraising Gala for their services and programs.

Kathryn Schoutsen, Director of Community Development and Advocacy at the Library, says they're raising funds for services and programs above and beyond what they do every day.

"We're looking for more support for some of our more popular programs, like our free craft kits for seniors, our writing programs for young students, and more special guests and special events."

They hope to shine a light on how much the Library offers in addition to books.

"If you haven't stepped foot in a library in a long time, now's the time to come back and check it out, Schoutsen says.

"You're going to find amazing maker spaces where you can access technology you wouldn't otherwise be able to, like laser cutters and 3D printers. We have media labs with green screens and recording studios."

"So if you've been itching to record your own podcast, you can get started at the Library," she adds.

One area the Library wants to grow with the fundraiser is its seniors' kits, which contain various items, including crafting supplies, materials to support active lifestyles and self-care supplies.

The program started a few years ago when social isolation and, mental health and disengagement from the community was a big issue for seniors.

Schoutsen says, "We're doing 150 to 200 kits a month, with demand for more, so we want to continue to support this program.

"Spark: An Evening of Creativity and Imagination Gala" will be filled with guest speakers and special guests, including artists, authors and musicians.

It takes place Thursday, February 29, at the Innisfil ideaLAB & Library in Innisfil from 7 pm to 10 pm.

Tickets are $125 and can be purchased here.
