With many people spending more and more time with their feet up, most of us will take any excuse we can, to get up and moving. Luckily, there are a ton of fun augmented reality experiences that can help. From turning your home into a haunted house to unleashing dinosaurs in your neighborhood, here are a few of our favorites.
Pokemon Go
Let's get the elephant in the room out of the way. Pokemon Go was an absolute phenomenon when it released nearly four years ago with everybody and their mother hurling red and white balls at the cute creatures and so-called "PokeStops" being occupied, at times, by hundreds of people. While the initial hype has died down, Pokemon Go is still going strong with updates and new content regularly. It's still free, fun, and an excellent excuse to go for a walk to refill your pokeballs.
Jurassic World Alive
Piggybacking on the success of Pokemon Go, Jurrasic World Alive takes the same formula (with a few tweaks) and swaps out Pokemon for Dinosaurs. You walk around, search for creatures, and try to get DNA from them to make your own. If you have kids who love dinosaurs, this game can be a lot of fun and can actually help spark some interest with plenty of opportunities to learn real information about them while they play.
dARk Subject One
If you have been filling your days with viewings of The Shining, Hereditary, and other horror movies, you might be looking for an experience to make your skin crawl. While dARk Subject One isn't terrifying, it's a fun and spooky little experience that changes your home into a haunted house where you have to hunt for clues and find creepy creatures.
WallaMe
WallaMe isn't a game but an app that lets users find messages all over the world using AR. You can even create your own for other users to find or send them directly to your friends and invite them to find it. It's easy to get started and use so give it a download and start building up your collection of walls!
Geocaching
If you like a little reward at the end of your adventures, this app might be perfect for you. Geocaching is an app that encourages exploration by letting users create and find treasure boxes around the area. You find them, take a picture, and can even exchange nick-nacks with other people who have also found the cache.
