Barrie resident Jane Brown Jackson has put out a challenge to area residents to mark National Nursing Week, with a generous donation to the RVH COVID-19 Fund, and is inviting others to join her in supporting patient care.
“While our daily lives have changed, one thing remains the same – the nurses at Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre continue to provide inspiring care seven days a week, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. In the moment we need them, nurses are always there for us, and our loved ones – even during a global pandemic,” Brown said. “Now I am asking others to be there for our nurses. In honour of the many incredible nurses who have provided me with care and compassion over the years, I am proud to be making a gift to the RVH COVID-19 FUND and will also match your gifts.”
Every gift made to the COVID-19 Fund before the end of May will be matched by Jane up to a total of $25,000. Funds raised will be directed to the expansion and equipping of RVH’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU), where lifesaving care is performed each day.
Eric Dean, CEO, RVH Foundation commented that plans to expand the ICU were in the early stages before the pandemic and they are now more important than ever.
“Lifesaving work is done every day in the ICU and support from the community will not only ensure we can put the right tools, in the right hands, in the best environment – it means we can continue to provide exceptional care now during COVID-19, and after, as North Simcoe Muskoka’s population growth will strain healthcare resources further.”
Donations in honour of National Nursing Week can be made at http://foundation.rvh.on.ca/supporting-rvh/covid-19-donations and will be matched until $25,000 is reached or until the end of May, 2020.
