A man was airlifted to a Toronto trauma centre with serious injuries and a suspect is facing charges after a stabbing in Barrie, say police.

Officers were called to Barrett Crescent in the Letitia Heights area around 3:20 Sunday afternoon about a report of an assault.

They found a man who had been stabbed and learned the suspect, who was known to the victim, had fled the scene in a vehicle.

That person was later arrested in a parking lot at Essa and Beacon Roads.

The 25-year-old from Barrie has been charged with aggravated assault, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and three counts of fail to comply with probation.

The accused had a bail hearing on Monday and was released from custody. His next court appearance is on May 2.
