Individual companies and the aviation industry as a whole are creating new ways to fly emission-free and achieve green air travel by 2050.
From business trips to vacation gateways, there will always be a need for travelling quickly across the globe, but with 5% of global emissions coming straight from air travel (with that number expected to triple by 2050), the need to achieve a more efficient means of flying is a huge concern.
Luckily, a plan put forward by the Internation Air Travel Association aims to do just that. The plan includes:
- Fuel-producing companies bring large scale, cost-competitive sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) to the market.
- Governments and air navigation service providers eliminating inefficiencies in air traffic management and airspace infrastructure.
- Aircraft and engine manufacturers producing radically more efficient airframe and propulsion technologies
- Airport operators providing the needed infrastructure to supply SAF, at cost, and in a cost-effective manner.
Recently, A Brazilian company called Embraer unveiled four concept aircraft that could enter service between 2030 and 2040. These include an 11-seater with a hybrid-electric propulsion system, a 9-seater all-electric aircraft, an all-electric aircraft with room for 19 passengers, and a biofuel or hydrogen fuelled aircraft that could seat between 35 and 50 people.

Another company called Airbus also showed off three concepts last year for their hydrogen-hybrid aircraft.
Reducing emissions is a key issue of our times and hopefully, even more companies begin looking into ways to make our skies cleaner and get us to that goal of green air travel by 2050.
