Is the new Futurama season also coming to Canada?

All glory to the hypnotoad
Futurama

Futurama fans have waited a long time for an announcement like this, but it looks like the show will be returning for one final season.

When the announcement was first made, fans in Canada were left with a bit of a mixed bag. On the one hand, a new season of Futurama is hard not to be excited about, however, it was made clear that Hulu were the ones responsible for the reboot. The problem is that Hulu is a purely American streaming service, so would Canadians be left in the dark for the adventure back to New New York?

Thankfully, this isn't the case, as it has now been made clear that the new season of Futurama will hit Disney Plus in Canada, where the rest of the show currently lives.

As for returning voice talent, it's another mixed bag, unfortunately. The good news is that most of the cast is already set to return for their iconic roles including Billy West (Fry, Zoidberg), Katey Sagal (Leela), Tress MacNeille (Linda, Mom), Maurice LaMarche (Marbo, Calculon, Kif), Lauren Tom (Amy), Phil LaMarr (Hermes), and David Herman (Scruffy). The bad news? John DiMaddio isn't yet on board to play Bender.

Negotiations for his return are currently in the works, however, it seems like Hulu might be lowballing DiMaggio, who has gone on to become one of the top voice actors in the industry. If a deal can't be reached, there is talk of recasting the role.

"I feel like the idea of [John DiMaggio] as a replaceable element of Futurama is part of a wider issue of an industry that doesn’t respect voice actors on the same level as live-action actors. You'll see voice actors who MADE a character treated like no live-action actor would be," Animation director Kelly Turnbull tweeted.

We really hope an agreement can be made between the two parties because a Futurama without Bender is on that will definitely have us saying: "I don't want to live on this planet anymore".
