Elvis beat out Top Gun: Maverick for the top spot at the box office, but it was a close call.

It was the biopics opening weekend, but the two films were neck and neck until Monday morning.

Sunday's number gave Elvis the edge it needed bringing in $30.5 million, while Top Gun earned $29.6 million.

Reports say the film brought out older audiences, who have been slower to return to the theatres due to the pandemic.

There is no reason for Top Gun: Maverick to be sour about it; the film has earned $ 1 billion worldwide since it premiered.
