Canadian Singer Joni Mitchell took the stage for the first time in twenty years with a surprise concert.

The 78-year-old joined Brandi Carlisle at the Newport Folk Festival on Sunday and put on her first full set in decades.

The legendary artist performed thirteen songs, including the 1970 and 1971 hits “Big Yellow Taxi” and “A Case of You.”

Halfway through her set, she strapped on the electric guitar for a solo.

Carlisle and other performers, including Wynonna Judd and Marcus Mumford of Mumford & Sons, joined Mitchell on stage.

The Newport Music Festival and Joni Mitchell have a long history. She first played it in 1967 when she was an up-and-coming artist.

In 2015 Mitchell suffered a near-fatal brain aneurysm but has slowly been returning to public life. She recently appeared at the Grammy Awards in April.
