Motley's Crue's Nikki Sixx celebrated a life-changing milestone recently.
The guitarist marked 22 years of sobriety on June 2.
On social media, he opened up about his addiction, the disease, and some advice for those starting their sobriety journey.
"Today I turn 22 years clean and sober or 264.00 months. It has been one hell of beautiful and sometimes difficult journey. People always say "GOOD FOR YOU" like some kinda pat on my head. I do understand what they are trying to say-- Truth is-Nobody held my hand while I was kicking heroin; in fact nobody even called to even check on me. Nor did anybody hold my hair while I was vomiting blood. "
The 64-year-old continued with some advice to people battling addiction.
"People don't always understand addiction, they think we have some kinda moral affliction when the truth is we are simply allergic to drink and drugs. You are not alone. Seek others out with some sober time under their belt who will understand where you're at. Isn't that what we need, to be understood? "
He finished the post by saying, "For those still suffering, there is hope. I am a work in progress. I still have work to do, but I try to mitigate my life one day at a time. I love you. Love yourself back too. God bless.
