Feeling a little extra blue today?
There's a reason for that. It's "Blue Monday," the saddest day of the year.
The third Monday of every January holds the title of gloomiest day of the year.
The term was created in 2005 by Dr. Cliff Arnall, a British psychologist who studied several factors like weather, debt, time since Christmas, and motivation.
Although it is easier said than done, there are some ways you can try and combat "Blue Monday."
Get Outside: A brisk walk, even when cloudy, can help your mood.
Stay Active: Regular physical activity boosts mood and reduces symptoms of depression.
Connect with Others: Reach out to friends or family to combat feelings of isolation.
Practice Self-Care: Do simple activities that make you happy like reading, listening to music, or taking a warm bath.
Seek Professional Help if Needed: If feelings of sadness continue and interfere with daily life, don't hesitate to seek help from a mental health professional.
