Barrie police have charged a landlord due to a dispute involving a rental property located in the southwest part of the city.

Police say the tenant had returned home Wednesday afternoon and discovered that there was no power and the gas supply had been turned off and locked.

During the investigation, police determined that the landlord showed up unannounced to the property she owns and entered the home with the help of a handyman. Once inside, police said the electricity, water and gas were shut off.

While police were at the residence, the landlord returned and was told by the officers that her earlier actions were unlawful and the utlities needed to be turned on immediately.

"The landlord refused, and as a result, a 37-year-old female from East Gwillimbury was arrested and charged with break and enter and mischief – obstruct, interrupt or interfere with the lawful use and enjoyment of property."

The woman has a court date next month.
