I get the appeal: get a coffee and don't let the world in until lunch.
It's called speech fasting and has been getting a lot of attention recently for its rumoured benefits, including a reduction in the stress hormone cortisol and a possible ability to lower blood pressure.
A study also says that keeping mum makes you a better listener. (I mean, what else are you going to do in a one-sided conversation?)
The idea's been getting a lot of traction since European singer Lulu revealed how she keeps her voice in great shape when she's on tour.
For a performer, it makes sense, but for us common folks, it's a little less, ugh, common.
Plus some studies show people who don't talk much are seen as less likeable.
So maybe, common sense should prevail here, and you can judge for yourself when to pipe up or pipe down.
