Weapons and drugs seized, Barrie man among two facing slew of charges: Orillia OPP

Orillia OPP laid a slew of charges on two men, one of them from Barrie, after seizing weapons and drugs during a traffic stop.

Police say they were conducting a general patrol on Barrie Road in Orillia on Saturday, July 6, when they spotted a vehicle " travelling in a manner consistent with driving impaired."

A traffic stop was then initiated.

"Upon speaking with the occupants, the officer noticed a cannabis joint in the motor vehicle, therefore the occupants were detained for further investigation," OPP wrote in a news release on Tuesday.

OPP say they found:

  • Police pepper spray
  • A prohibited knife
  • A conductive energy weapon
  • Canadian Currency

"Through investigation, officers formed grounds the occupants were trafficking in illegal substances," OPP stated. "The motor vehicle was seized, and a warrant was obtained to search the vehicle fully."

The following was seized by police:

  • A loaded Smith and Wesson revolver handgun
  • 164.5 grams of fentanyl
  • 6.9 grams of cocaine
  • 37 hydromorphone
  • 1 oxycodone

A 41-year-old Barrie man has been charged with:

  • Possession of Firearm or Ammunition contrary to Prohibition Order, contrary to section 117.01(1) if the Criminal Code of Canada (CC) x2
  • Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition contrary to section 92(2) CC
  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm section 91(1) CC
  • Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm section 94 CC.
  • Possession of prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition section 95(1) CC
  • Possession of loaded prohibited or restricted firearm section 95(1).
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000 section 354(1)(a)
  • Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose section 88 CC
  • Knowledge of unauthorized possession of firearm section 92(1)
  • Possession of a schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking-Opioid contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drug and Substance Act (CDSA)
  • Possession of schedule 1 substance- opioid section 4(1) CDSA
  • Possession of a schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking- Cocaine section 5(2) CDSA
  • Possession of schedule 1 substance- cocaine section 4(1)
  • Possession of a schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking-other drugs section 5(1) CDSA
  • Possession of schedule 1 substance- other drugs section 4(1) CDSA x2

A 38-year-old North York man was also charged with:

  • Possession of Firearm ammunition contrary to prohibition order section 117.01(1) CC x18
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000 section 354(1)(a)
  • Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition contrary to section 92(2) CC
  • Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm section 91(1) CC
  • Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was a firearm section 94 CC.
  • Possession of prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition section 95(1) CC
  • Possession of loaded prohibited or restricted firearm section 95(1).
  • Unauthorized possession of prohibited device section 92(2)
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose section 88 CC x5
  • Carry concealed weapon section 90 CC.
  • Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition section 92(2) CC x4
  • Possession of a schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking-Opioid contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drug and Substance Act (CDSA)
  • Possession of schedule 1 substance- opioid section 4(1) CDSA
  • Possession of a schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking- Cocaine section 5(2) CDSA
  • Possession of schedule 1 substance- cocaine section 4(1)
  • Possession of a schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking-other drugs section 5(1) CDSA
  • Possession of schedule 1 substance- other drugs section 4(1) CDSA x2

Both were held in custody pending bail hearings.
