Ontario Provincial Police have upgraded charges against a motorist in connection with a deadly crash last month on Highway 12 in Ramara Township.

On June 18, just after 4 p.m., police say they received a report of a two-vehicle collision on Highway 12 near Concession 1 north of Gamebridge.

When first responders got to the scene, they found one vehicle in the ditch and another blocking the highway with significant damage. Ramara firefighters extracted the driver from the vehicle in the ditch, while officers noticed upon speaking with the other motorist that they were showing signs of being intoxicated.

Both drivers were taken to a local hospital and then they were later transported to Toronto area trauma centres with life-threatening injuries.

On June 28, one of the motorists, a 63-year-old man of Severn Township, died of their injuries.

As a result, police say the other driver, a 52-year-old Scarborough woman. has had charges upgraded to impaired driving and impaired driving causing death.

Anyone who may have witnessed or has camera footage of the collision and has not spoken with police is asked to contact the Orillia OPP Detachment at 1-888-310-1122.
