A second suspect has been arrested by Barrie Police in connection with a parking lot explosion at a townhouse complex on Anne Street North near Highway 400 last September.
According to a police news release on Friday, the arrest was made after information came to light during an unrelated investigation.
On Tuesday, a 27-year-old Barrie man was charged with multiple offences in connection with the incident at 108A Anne Street North on September 27, 2023.
The following charges have been laid:
- Causing an explosion likely to cause bodily harm, death, or serious damage to property.
- Place or throw an explosive substance with intent to damage property.
- Explosives – making or possessing substance with intent.
- Explosives – making or possessing for unlawful purpose.
- Arson – damage to property x 2
- Possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order x 3
The accused was held in custody for a bail hearing.
In May 2024, police said they charged a 36-year-old man from North York in connection with the bombing.
The suspect was located in Ajax.
Police have said the blast involved an improvised explosive device (IED) that had been placed around the gas cap area of a white SUV in the parking lot.
A short distance away, investigators located an unexploded improvised explosive device (IED) in a garden. The device was detonated by a police bomb squad.
