Barrie Police says a 25-year-old man faces attempted murder and aggravated assault charges in connection to a stabbing in 2019.
On Saturday, July 27, 2019, shortly after 3:00 a.m., police responded to a report of a stabbing on Dunlop Street West, between Bayfield Street and Maple Avenue.
A 28-year-old man was found suffering from life-threatening injuries after he was stabbed with what is believed to have been an edged weapon.
Police say two suspects were identified by members of the homicide unit, and as a result, warrants were issued for their arrest.
On September 21, 2019, a 33-year-old male from Toronto was located by the Toronto police and arrested on several outstanding warrants. He was transported to Barrie, and was held in custody for a bail hearing.
Officers say they learned that the other suspect involved in this incident fled from Canada after the stabbing.
They say for almost three years, detectives worked to track his movement through the Caribbean and South America.
According to police, in November 2021, the suspect was arrested in Saint Kitts, and arrangements were made for his extradition back to Canada.
Yesterday, police returned the accused, and today, he is scheduled to appear in Barrie court to face charges of attempted murder, and aggravated assault.
