A cyclist has been taken to a Toronto trauma centre with life-threatening injuries following a collision with a vehicle on Highway 12 in Orillia.

Around six Monday morning, emergency crews were alerted about the collision on Highway 12 between Forest Avenue and Atherley Road.

Upon arrival, officers observed a vehicle with substantial damage and a bicycle which appeared to have been destroyed, police said.

The male victim operating the bicycle was transported to a local hospital and then by air ambulance to a Toronto trauma centre.

The highway was closed for several hours for the investigation and has since reopened.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone who may have witnessed or has camera footage of the collision and has not spoken with police is asked to contact the Orillia OPP Detachment at 1-888-310-1122.
