Quebec provincial police say a five-year-old boy from a Montreal suburb who was the subject of an Amber Alert has been found safe.

The boy was found in York Region this morning.

Quebec police say he was unharmed and will be returned to the province.

They say authorities are questioning the 65-year-old woman alleged to have taken him from Brossard, Que., just south of Montreal.

The alert was issued around 4 a.m. and said the boy and the woman were travelling in a Tesla 3 with Ontario licence plates.

Ontario Provincial Police were informed about the Amber Alert early on with the assumption the pair were heading to that province.

An Amber Alert is triggered when a child has been reported abducted and is believed to be in danger.

This report by The Canadian Press was first published Aug. 27, 2024.
