Motorist charged with impaired driving causing death in Oro-Medonte crash

A motorist is facing an impaired driving charge after a passenger in their vehicle was killed in a single-vehicle crash in Oro-Medonte.

Shortly after 1 a.m. on Saturday, Ontario Provincial Police responded to reports of a collision at 15-16 Sideroad West between Line 5 and Line 6.

Upon arrival, police say the male driver, age 20 and from Orillia, was transported to a Barrie area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and the male passenger, a 19-year-old Barrie man, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver has been charged with the following:

  • Operation causing death,
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), and
  • Dangerous Operation causing death.
