An unwanted surprise for a man following a bank robbery Monday in Orillia.

Police were alerted shortly after 4:30 p.m. about a robbery in progress at the TD Bank on Monarch Drive.

The suspect demanded money and was given a decoy package that caused red dye to go off, according to Orillia OPP.

A 30-year-old from Orillia has been charged with robbery with violence, uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, using a firearm while committing an offence, and two counts of failing to comply with a probation order. He was held in custody for a bail hearing.
