Two South Simcoe Police officers died in a gun battle with a man inside a residence in Innisfil.
The province's Special Investigations Unit (SIU) says around 8 p.m. on Thursday, police were called to a residence in the area of 25th Side Road and the 9th Line for a disturbance. Inside the home, there was an exchange of gunfire between the man and the officers. A 23-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene. Two officers were taken to hospital where they died.
Six investigators and three forensic investigators have been assigned to the case.
The SIU investigates the conduct of officials that may have resulted in death, serious injury, sexual assault and/or the discharge of a firearm at a person.
