A woman in China had a decent payday by giving up her phone for a portion of the day, winning the equivalent of $1,380 in U.S. dollars.

The contest was part of the "public welfare challenge" to raise awareness for smartphone addiction and test people's ability to stay away from their phones for eight hours.

If it sounds like easy money, it wasn't.

In addition to having no phone, she had to lie flat to avoid anxiety, but she couldn't sleep or nap.

She also couldn't have any other distractions, like books and movies.
