
A 19-year-old from Angus is facing several charges after police say a motorist approached a RIDE program on County Road 90 in Essa Township just before midnight on Christmas and allegedly attempted to avoid the spot check.
Police pursued the vehicle, but the driver did not stop, so the chase was halted for public safety.
Then just after 12:30 on Thursday morning, police say officers patrolling County Road 90 spotted the vehicle that tried to avoid the RIDE program. After the car pulled into a parking lot, police attempted a traffic stop when the driver tried to evade officers again.
"However, this time the driver drove into a hydro box and the vehicle became stuck. The driver did not sustain any injuries," an OPP news release stated.
The teen has been charged with the following:
- Operation while impaired- blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
- Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs
- Dangerous Operation
- Flight from Peace Officer
In addition to the charges, the driver received a 90-day licence suspension, and the motor vehicle was impounded for 7 days.
