Ontario Provincial Police have charged a man with multiple weapons offences after they responded to a disturbance in Orillia.

Shortly after midnight on Wednesday, police say they were called to an apartment complex in the West Street North area for reports of an individual making threats and spitting on people.

Officers arrived and spotted a male with a gun.

"Officers quickly de-escalated the situation and safely brought the individual into custody," police said in a news release.

Police say the items they seized included a handgun, ammunition and Xanax.

A 24-year-old has been charged with four counts of failing to comply with a release order, several firearm offences, five counts of uttering threats, obstructing police, and possession of property obtained by crime.

The suspect was held in custody.
