OPP: Drug trafficking investigation leads to arrest in downtown Barrie

Police seized over $36,000 in currency, cocaine and fentanyl with a street value around $40,000

A Markham man faces charges following a drug trafficking investigation by Nottawasaga OPP, with help from the Barrie Police Drug Enforcement Unit.

Provincial police say on Monday, Dec. 12th, around 12:30 p.m., the OPP Tactical Response Unit (TRU) arrested the 26-year-old.

Officials from the Barrie Police Service confirmed the arrest was made in downtown Barrie.

The accused is up on a number of charges including:

  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - opioid (other than heroin)
  • Trafficking in schedule I substance - cocaine
  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine
  • Trafficking in schedule I substance - opioid (other than heroin)
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5000
  • Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code - three counts

Police say a warrant was also executed at a Markham residence.

According to OPP, they seized over $36,000 in currency, cocaine and fentanyl with a street value of approximately $40,000, as well as other evidence of drug trafficking.

The accused was held pending a bail hearing.
