One person was unaccounted for after a house fire in Essa Township that officials have deemed "suspicious."

Deputy Fire Chief Gary McNamara told Barrie 360 that the call to the blaze on the 9th Line came in just after three on Tuesday afternoon.

He could not disclose if anyone else was home at the time of the fire, except to confirm that one person was uaccounted for.

The fire killed two cats, but a rabbit survived, according to McNamara.

The Ontario Fire Marshal is investigating.
