Novice driver charged with impaired after reports of collisions with vehicles, guardrails on Highway 11

A 28-year-old Gravenhurst man was charged with impaired driving and other offences after Orillia OPP received reports late Thursday afternoon about a pickup truck being driven aggressively and dangerously on Highway 11 northbound.

Police were told the truck was was swerving back and forth and colliding with other vehicles and guardrails.

The vehicle was located and pulled over by police, and during the investigation, the driver allegedly assaulted an officer.

The accused has been charged with impaired driving, dangerous operation of a vehicle, failing to report an accident, failing to stop for police, failing to notify a change of address, and being a novice driver with a blood alcohol content above zero.

As a result of the charges, the man's driver's licence has been suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle has been impounded for seven days.
