A male who fled the scene of a crash in Barrie and was tackled by a witness is now facing a slew of charges, including drug trafficking, drug possession, and failure to comply with a release order.
At around 3 p.m. Monday, police say an officer spotted a person driving away suspiciously from a plaza on Essa Road. The officer followed the vehicle as it turned northbound onto Innisfil Street and then approached Tiffin Street and did not stop for the traffic light.
"As the car entered the intersection, it struck an eastbound truck, a curb and rolled, eventually coming to a stop on its tires," police said in a news release.
The driver fled on foot, but police say he was quickly tackled by a person who witnessed the collision.
Police allege they found suspected cocaine, meth and marijuana in the car along with evidence to support that the drugs were being illegally trafficked.
The 29-year-old from Scarborough was also charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle, flight from police, failing to stop after an accident, and driving a vehicle with cannabis readily available.
The accused was held in custody for a bail hearing on Tuesday.
"The Barrie Police Service wish to acknowledge and thank the good Samaritan who assisted police yesterday afternoon," the news release stated.
