A 22-year-old Georgina man suffered critical injuries after Bracebridge OPP (Ontario Provincial Police) say he was struck by a boat while swimming in Skeleton Lake in Muskoka Lakes Township.
Just before 5 p.m. Saturday, provincial police and other first responders received several calls about a boating collision on Skeleton Lake near Skeleton Lake Road 5.
" Callers reported that a boat had collided with a swimmer, and people on shore had managed to bring the victim out of the water," OPP said in a news release.
Police say the swimmer was rushed to hospital and then transported by air ambulance to a Toronto area hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The operator of the boat was located, and a 39-year-old Niagara Falls man has been charged with impaired driving causing bodily harm, failure to comply with a demand, failing to stop at an accident resulting in bodily harm, and failing to comply with a release order.
The accused is scheduled to have a bail hearing on Sunday.
