Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested a man in connection with the firing of guns recently from a bridge in Mactier.

The 24-year-old from Brampton was taken into custody on Wednesday and has been charged with careless use and unsafe use of firearms.

On August 30, police released a video about the incident and urged the public to assist them in identifying the other individuals.

"The OPP would like to thank members of the public who have come forward with information," police said in a news release on Thursday evening. "The OPP takes firearms incidents very seriously. Behaviour that compromises the safety and security of our communities will not be tolerated."

The accused has a court date in October.

Police say his firearms licence and weapons were seized.

"This investigation remains ongoing," Bracebridge OPP added in the news release. "Officers continue to actively investigate, gathering evidence and following up on leads to ensure a thorough and complete investigation."
