Full-time college support staff (FTSS) walked off the job at midnight, impacting all 24 publicly funded colleges across Ontario—including Georgian College.
The strike follows the expiration of the FTSS contract on August 31. While support staff are on strike, faculty, librarians, and counsellors—who belong to a separate bargaining unit—are not participating in the labour action.
Despite the strike, Georgian College has confirmed all campuses remain open and classes are proceeding as scheduled. However, students and visitors are being advised to plan ahead, as information picket lines may cause delays when accessing campus facilities.
“Georgian College is eager to see this labour dispute settled as soon as possible with an agreement that’s fair and affordable for colleges and employees alike,” said President and CEO Kevin Weaver. “Our goal at Georgian is to ensure our students continue their learning.”
The strike affects a wide range of services typically handled by FTSS, including administrative support, IT services, and campus operations.
Georgian College has launched a dedicated webpage to provide strike-related updates and answer frequently asked questions. The page will be updated regularly throughout the labour disruption.
