Nottawasaga OPP radared two vehicles at excessive speeds Thursday, leading to the arrest of and charges against both drivers.
The first incident occurred just after 7 p.m., an officer was conducting speed enforcement on 6th Line in Essa, where they eventually initiated a traffic stop for a speeding vehicle.
During the stop, the officer formed grounds to suspect the driver was impaired by alcohol. As a result, the 40-year-old man from Barrie was arrested and charged.
Among the charges, two counts of impaired driving, one count of speeding up to 49 kilometres per hour over the posted limit, and one count of obstructing his licence plate.
The second incident occurred shortly before 11 p.m., when an officer was conducting speed enforcement on westbound vehicles driving on Highway 89 near Sideroad 10.
There, OPP noted a vehicle speeding while also having a malfunctioning passenger side taillight. Police also saw the vehicle cross into the oncoming lane and nearly causing a collision.
After a traffic stop was initiated, the officer formed ground the driver was impaired, and the 35-year-old man from Alliston was charged with the same impaired and speeding charges as the Barrie man, plus one for failing to provide insurance and another for failing to notify of a changed address.
Both driver's licences were suspended for 30 days and vehicles impounded for seven. The court date for the accused is in early October, taking place in Bradford.
