A motorist is accused of packing his bad driving habits all into one day.

Last Wednesday, Barrie police say they spotted a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed on Yonge Street, and officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop. Police say the car was travelling well in excess of the posted 50 km/h speed limit, and the driver was seen weaving in and out of traffic. Officers lost sight of the vehicle near Little Avenue.

Minutes later, the same vehicle was seen leaving a coffee shop, and again attempts were made by police to stop the car. The driver blew through a red light at Yonge Street and Little Avenue and was clocked once again well in excess of the posted 50 km/h speed limit.

Not long after, police found the car parked in a driveway at home in the area of Mapleview Drive East and Terry Fox Drive. As officers approached the vehicle, it reversed and crashed into an unmarked cruiser, causing significant damage. Once again, the car sped off at a high rate of speed.

The chaos ended the next day when a 27-year-old Toronto man turned up at Barrie Police Headquarters and surrendered.

He has been charged with one count of assaulting a peace officer with a weapon and three counts each of dangerous operation of a vehicle and flight from a peace officer.

The suspect was released from custody with a court date next month.
