OPP officer injured as stolen vehicle collides with cruiser in Wasaga Beach: police

A Tiny Township man is facing a long list of charges after several alleged vehicle thefts and collisions, including one involving police cruiser that injured an OPP officer.

Around 1:30 Sunday afternoon, Southern Georgian Bay OPP received a report of a stolen Honda CR-V from Penetanguishene.

At around 2:45 p.m., police allege the same person stole a Ford F-250 from a location in Innisfil.

Shortly after, police say the suspect travelled to Wasaga Beach where they were involved in two fail-to-remain collisions.

OPP officers located the suspect vehicle on Bells Park Avenue, where it collided with a police cruiser and a nearby residence.

The officer was taken to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries and later released.

The 52-year-old suspect has been charged with the following:

  • Theft of motor vehicle - two counts
  • Operation while prohibited
  • Fail to comply with probation order
  • Assault peace officer - cause bodily harm
  • Possession of property obtained by crime
  • Flight from peace officer - two counts
  • Dangerous operation causing bodily harm
  • Resist peace officer
  • Operation while impaired causing bodily harm
  • Refusal to comply with demand - bodily harm
  • Mischief - destroys or damages property - two counts
  • Fail to remain

The accused was held in custody for a bail hearing on Monday.
