A masked suspect fled from Barrie police after a homeowner in the area of Sunnidale Road and Oakridge Road called shortly after 12:30 Thursday morning to report that on several occasions before contacting authorities, they had heard noises coming from the garage and believed that someone was trying to break in.

When police arrived on scene, they opened the garage door and a masked intruder fled.

Officers determined that a raccoon was enjoying some apples and had gotten into a compost container stored in the garage.

The homeowner secured the garage, police said in a news release, and will have to clean up the unexpected mess left by the intruder.
