Barrie police say a motorist they charged with impaired driving had two children, ages two and six, in the vehicle with him.
The driver was pulled over at a RIDE spot check just before 11:30 p.m. Saturday on Essa Road near Highway 400.
Driver Allegedly Over Legal Alcohol Limit
Police say the 34-year-old from Barrie registered a fail on an approved screening device. He was arrested and taken to police headquarters, and with the assistance of a breathalyzer operator, police say it was confirmed that he was over the legal limit.
Vehicle Impounded and Licence Suspended
As a result of the impaired driving charge, the vehicle of the accused has been impounded for seven days, and his driver's licence has been suspended for 90 days.
The driver has a court date in November.
Police Issue Reminder Ahead of Holiday Season
"With the holiday season approaching, Barrie police are again reminding the public to plan ahead so that the potential for dangerous situations such as this can be averted. Impaired driving, whether it involves alcohol or drugs, is simply unacceptable in a world that has options available that include taxis, public transit, and ride sharing," police stated in a news release.
