Drivers navigating through pylons and around barriers on Big Bay Point Road in Barrie will not have to suffer through gridlock any longer.
Friday afternoon, the City of Barrie announced the early completion of the Big Bay Point watermain lining project, which has restored all the lanes on the road between Bayview Drive and Huronia Road.
Workers could be seen removing pylons near the intersection of Big Bay Point and Huronia just after 3 p.m. Friday.
The city says it didn't anticipate the project to be completed until December. It involved lining 1,200 metres of the existing 500 millimetre diameter concrete pressure pipe watermain in that stretch of Big Bay Point Road.
“We appreciate the cooperation of residents and businesses throughout this project and thank the contractor for their excellent work in completing the lining ahead of schedule,” said City of Barrie Director of Infrastructure Sherry Diemert. “Completing this work early helps ensure reliable water service for the community and minimizes future disruptions.”
