This is neighbour looking out for neighbour.

Barrie police say they were contacted by a citizen on Saturday after he saw two unknown males on his elderly neighbour's roof who appeared to be doing work that may not have been authorized.

The neighbour went up onto the roof and saw that shingles had been damaged near a roof vent.

Police say the person's hunch was right, and the males he saw on the roof had tried to force the elderly homeowner to sign a contract. She did not, and they left.

The suspects were last seen leaving the area in a white-coloured pickup truck.

"The Barrie Police Service strongly encourages those with parents in their senior years to share this information with them and to remind them to never sign a contract in any form that involves home repair or renovation, without engaging their children first," police said in a news release.

Police also remind homeowners that no one should be allowed onto their property, especially if they show up uninvited or unexpectedly. If this occurs, contact police.

As well, police acknowledge the neighbour who acted in an "incredibly protective manner" for the homeowner across the street from him.
