Loaded firearm seized by police after domestic dispute in Barrie

Barrie Police seized a loaded handgun from a residence in Barrie on Sunday after officers were called to the scene after reports of a domestic dispute.

Shortly after 5:00 p.m., officers responded to the area of Yonge Street and Cox Mill Road on a report that a man inside one of the residences was armed with a knife and involved in a row with a woman.

Upon arrival, a 37-year-old man from Barrie was arrested without incident. However, other information indicated that the suspect may have a firearm, which was was loaded and located by officers along with ammunition and the knife.

The man faces 11 charges, many regarding his usage, possession, and storage of a firearm. He was also charged with mischief under $5,000, uttering threats, and assault with a weapon.

He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
