All lanes on Bayview Drive are now fully open to traffic, marking the completion of major construction on the Bayview Drive Transportation Improvements project.

This multi-year project – stretching from Little Avenue to Big Bay Point Road – was identified in the City’s Transportation Master Plan as a key investment to support Barrie’s growth to 2031. The improvements enhance safety, accessibility, and mobility for all users.

Project highlights include:

  • Widened road to three lanes, adding a centre two-way left-turn lane;
  • New cycle tracks on both sides of the roadway;
  • Accessible sidewalk on the west side;
  • Upgraded underground infrastructure, including new watermains, sanitary services, and stormwater systems;
  • Enhanced street lighting for safety and visibility.

“Reopening Bayview Drive marks an important milestone in improving mobility across Barrie,” said Sherry Diemert, Director of Infrastructure. “These upgrades make the corridor safer, more efficient, and better connected for everyone.”

Final paving and landscape restorations will be completed in spring 2026.
