Orillia OPP have laid several criminal charges against a Barrie man that evaded a police traffic stop in Orillia on Tuesday.

Just after 1:30 a.m., an officer proactively patrolling the area of University Avenue and Diana Drive tried to stop a vehicle for a Highway Traffic Act (HTA) violation.

Instead of complying with police, the vehicle continued, which led more officers to join in on the search for the suspect. Eventually, the vehicle was found parked at a nearby residence with the driver inside.

The driver, a 20-year-old man from Barrie, was arrested at the scene for impaired driving, and brought to the detachment for further testing.

Later, he was given four charges: flight from a peace officer, dangerous operation, and two more relating to impaired operation.

He is set to appear in court in Orillia at a later date. In the meantime, his driver's licence has been suspended for 90 days, and his vehicle impounded for 14 days.
