In a massive increase from a contribution in 2024, an auto shop in Barrie donated two tons of food to the Barrie Food Bank on Thursday.
Midas on Mapleview Drive West doubled the 2024 contribution from franchisee Anil Kumar, which was one ton of food and $2,000.
“Nobody should have to wonder where their next meal is coming from,” says Kumar. “I want to sincerely thank my community and my customers for making this possible. Last year, I pledged to donate one dollar for every car that came through my doors. Because of their support, we’re able to provide two tons of food—enough to help feed more than 3,000 families in need this holiday season.”
“We’re seeing a 60% increase in demand this year,” says Barrie Food Bank Manager of Fundraising & Donor Engagement Paula Marin. “Just last month alone, we served 8,800 families. This is exactly what a successful food drive looks like. We’re incredibly grateful, and we encourage everyone to help close the gap through initiatives like this.”
Kumar has owned the location for 19 years and has hosted many community initiatives, with even bigger plans ahead as he approaches his 20th year in business next winter. His efforts are a continuation of the company's mission of community involvement, which means more around Christmas.
“I’m not stopping here,” Kumar adds. “My goal next year is four tons. We need to make sure everyone in our community is well fed and cared for.”
