Paul Sadlon, whose car dealership, entrepreneurial spirit, and philanthropy have reigned over Barrie for decades, died early Saturday morning at age 93.

His death was announced prior to Saturday night's Barrie Colts' game, in the arena that bears his name. The announcement was followed by a moment of silence.

Paul Sadlon Motors has been a fixture on Bayfield Street since 1971. Over the decades, it has grown into a regional powerhouse, known for its customer-first approach and deep community ties.

A long-time supporter of Georgian College, Mr. Sadlon was presented with the Board of Governors’ Honorary Diploma in 2018. It is presented to recipients who have demonstrated excellence in their profession or industry, and who have made a major contribution to an academic program at the college through a significant contribution of expertise, influence and personal time. The Sadlon family played an integral role in bringing the Sadlon Centre for Health, Wellness, and Sciences to fruition through a $2 million donation in 2011.

In 2019, the Barrie Molson Centre was renamed Sadlon Arena as part of a 10-year naming rights agreement between the City of Barrie and Paul Sadlon Motors.

Mr. Sadlon was also known for supporting many community causes, including the Simcoe County Newcomer Recognition Awards, Barrie Pride, the Bradford Lions Club and the Bradford West Gwillimbury Library and Cultural Centre.
