A three-month investigation by the Barrie Internet Child Exploitation Unit (ICE) culminated on Tuesday with the arrest of a 63-year-old Springwater Township man.

Police say the ICE Unit received a report from the National Centre of Missing and Exploited Children concerning the upload of child sexual abuse and exploitation material.

The ICE Unit executed a search warrant in November last year at a residence in the north end of the city, where several electronic devices belonging to the accused were seized for forensic analysis.

"Forensics resulted in the categorization of almost 3,000 images," police said in a news released.

The accused has been charged with possession of child sexual abuse and exploitation, accessing child sexual abuse and exploitation material.

He was held for a bail hearing.
