A challenging traffic stop for Barrie police after an officer spotted a vehicle being driven erratically just before midnight in the area of Bradford Street and Essa Road.

Police said the vehicle kept weaving all over the road for over three kilometres heading southbound on Essa Road. Several police officers arrived, and they were able to stop the vehicle in the area of Loggers Run and Beacon Road, where an impaired driving investigation was launched.

A 36-year-old Barrie man was charged with impaired driving.

"The Barrie Police Service urges drivers who plan to consume alcohol or drugs to make alternate plans, such as having a designated driver, using a ride share service, or taking public transit. Impaired driving is one of the leading causes of death on the roads. Make better choices. Help to keep our roads safe," police said in a news release.
