Fire guts unoccupied home in Oro-Medonte

Damage to an unoccupied home in Oro-Medonte Township is pegged at $1.5 million.

Fire Chief Roree Payment, in an email to Barrie 360, said crews were called to the blaze on Bass Lake Side Road at Line 3 around midnight.

"Crews arrived to find a well involved fire in a single-family home threatening a nearby home," Payment wrote.

He said seven apparatus and approximately 30 firefighters were on scene and able to bring the fire under control in 40 minutes.

In a media release, Orillia OPP said their Major Crime Unit and Forensic Identification Services have been notified about the fire and are investigating.
