Two people were sent to hospital following a single-vehicle crash on Highway 400 in Georgian Bay Township on Wednesday morning.

OPP responded to the incident in the southbound lanes between Hidden Glen Road and Joe Kings Road at around 6:21.

The vehicle "left the rain-soaked highway and entered the southbound ditch striking a rock and came to rest upside down on the guardrail," police wrote in a release.

Officers were assisted by Simcoe County and Muskoka paramedics, along with Georgian Bay Township Fire Service, in freeing the trapped occupants.

A 36-year-old female driver and 38-year-old male passenger, both from Midland, were transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

OPP say the driver has been charged with a highway traffic act offence.

The southbound lanes were closed but reopened just after 9 a.m.

Police also remind motorists to take a moment and check their vehicle's tires before heading out.
