City of Barrie offering grant program for students with summer businesses

Students participating in the Summer Business program are pictured in this photo provided by the City of Barrie.

Every youngster needs some help getting a business off the ground, and there's a municipal program that can lend a hand.

The City of Barrie's Summer Company Program is providing some local students in Barrie, Orillia, and Simcoe County the chance to earn $3,000 from a micro-grant that would help them start and run their own summer business.

Successful applicants would also receive mentorship from experienced business professionals from the City's Small Business Centre, and access to training and networking opportunities funded by the provincial government.

Students can also keep any profits generated through the operation of their business.
