A dozen new cases of COVID-19 in Simcoe County, and a dozen recoveries too

Four Barrie residents among the 12 cases announced Monday

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU) is reporting twelve new cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed by lab tests in our area. Equally as many people have recovered too.

Over the weekend, the health unit added four more Barrie residents to its caseload, along with three from New Tecumseth, two from Severn, and one each from Bradford-West Gwillimbury, Springwater, and Tiny. A complete listing of all cases is posted on the SMDHU website daily.

Meanwhile, another twelve recoveries were posted by the SMDHU, noting recoveries make up 42 percent of its caseload of 564. The region’s death toll has stood at 36 since May 20.

This marks the first update from the Health Unit since Friday’s announcement of 25 cases of COVID-19 were added to the caseload; the SMDHU noted many were as a result of a previously announced outbreak among the employees of a farm in New Tecumseth.
