ATV driver airlifted to Toronto hospital with serious injuries after collision in Severn

OPP say the lone rider was wearing a helmet

Orillia OPP say an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) driver was airlifted to a Toronto hospital with serious injuries after a collision in Severn Township.

On Saturday, July 23, around 9:30 p.m., police responded to a single ATV rollover, where the driver was ejected, on Taylor Line near Upper Big Chute Road.

They say the lone rider, who was wearing a helmet, was transported to a local hospital, and later airlifted to Toronto.

OPP Technical Collision Investigators and Reconstructionists are assisting with the investigation.

Investigators are asking anyone who may have witnessed the collision, events leading up to it or have any information in relation to this investigation, to please call Orillia OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or www.crimestopperssdm.com.

OPP say when riding an off-road vehicle (ORV) on or off-road, drivers and passengers must wear an approved helmet, securely fastened under the chin with a chinstrap. When riding, please follow the following safety tips:

  • Always ride according to the trail, road and weather conditions
  • Use extreme caution when turning, crossing, climbing and descending hills
  • Drive sober – it’s illegal to drive while impaired by alcohol or drugs
  • Ride in designated areas only
  • Respect the environment and keep noise levels low
